I had a feral cat that was not full grown went I got to know her in my yard at the time. I found bathing her in a bathtub, although I did try that with an older feral cat, not good, but it worked wonderful with my blind cat. The feral cat always wanted to have a way to get outside.

Hi Tilly! It sounds like you picked a great family to spend your life with. To Holly, it sounds like you are doing everything right with Tilly. With an outdoor cat, you have to have the patience, love, and wisdom to give them time to adapt to an indoor life. You can't force or rush it. Different cats need different amounts of time to make the adjustment. I see you are already planning on this, it really helps to give a cat their own personal space away from you (and any the other pets). When the cat distribution system worked for us again, we put up shelves, and later, a hanging cat shelf on one of our doors specifically for our wild child and she LOVES it. This helps her feel safe and has been an important place away from everything when she feels the need to decompress. One thing I noticed was how quick Tilly was to jump up on you and initiate cuddles. This means Tilly is not a feral; but, is either a previously owned housecat, a barn cat, or a community cat who received love and attention from several humans. Ferals just don't make the psychological leap from being wild to being a momma's cat within a few weeks. You got lucky and I am overjoyed in your good fortune. May you and Tilly enjoy many years together.
